Earlier this week I had an engagement session with Katie and Matt. They are getting married in February 2012. I got to hang out with them for a while and capture some images. This is probably my favorite from our session together. I was just looking to get a nice shot of the engagement ring, which I did, but I think it is really a romantic shot. While the focus is on the ring, you can see Katie looking at Matt with a lot of love. I think it really shows how good Katie and Matt are together and I am happy I got to spend some time getting to know them better and I think we had a great session.

Today we have an image of Hannah. This shot was part of her session for some head shots. She was selected to go to some auditions at Disney and needed them for the agents she will be meeting there. It will be an exciting opportunity for her, and she will get to be at Disney for the Fourth of July. I bet she will get to see quite the fireworks show while she is there with her family. Good luck to her during her auditions!

This is little Reid’s submission for the 2011 Tiny Tots and Big Kids Shots photo contest. He is the adorable son of a good friend of mine and yes his hair is real and it naturally stands up like that! It is really amazing. I have never seen anything like it. There is one month left to get your picture taken to submit to the contest. You can find more information
here.

This weeks image is of David. David came in for a corporate portrait for a recent promotion he received. I created this image with a large soft box to the left, a silver reflector to the right, and a light on the background. Best of luck to David in his new role and in his move to northwestern Wisconsin!

This weeks image is a project that we worked on as a family. Cake balls! My wife’s boss made some of these for a work party a few weeks ago, and she brought a few home for us to try. Well it was so good that we decide to buy a book that showed us how to make them and give it a shot. We made these ones with strawberry cake, strawberry frosting, and light chocolate covering. All in all, they were not hard to make, and kind of fun. I think we put a little too much frosting in the cake mix, but next time we will try a little less. The important thing is that they are very tasty! I am looking forward to trying different flavor combinations and the more whimsical designs.
The image was shot with a gridded soft box 45 degrees to the left of camera. A 22 inch beauty dish directly over, and a silver reflector to camera right.

Week 2 of my 52 week project is a photo from one of my client’s maternity session. I really like this photo because it is intimate without showing anything beyond her pregnant belly and their hands holding each other and their unborn child. It shows the love that they share with each other and with their soon to be born son. In fact, he was born two days after her maternity session. About 7 weeks early. Luckily, it looks as though everything is going great with him and hopefully he will get to go home soon. They were great to work with and I am so happy that they have a beautiful new son to enjoy. Once he has been cleared to go home, I will be doing some newborn images of him as well, so I am really looking forward to that.
The image featured here was shot with one AlienBee 800 with a 20 degree grid on it. I then converted to black and white in Lightroom.

Welcome to my new 52 week project. Some of you may remeber that I was doing a 365 day project last year, but I just could not keep up with it. Therefore, I have decided that this year I am going to do one image a week for a 52 week project. This is the first post of the year.
This is the new camera that I just purchased off of eBay. It is a Kodak Duaflex III. It is obviously very old, but these cameras are becoming very popular because of a style of photography called TTV or through the viewfinder. Photographers are taking these cameras and shooting through the viewfinder of these older cameras to create an interesting new style of photography. I have decide to give this new style of photography a shot (pun not intended). At the very least, the camera looks really cool and is a nice display piece in my studio. I alos bought a Kodak Duaflex II, and woudl like to the the Duaflex I and Duaflex IV models at some point, but we’ll see how this one goes first.

I want to introduce you to Sarah and Kevin. They are a couple whose wedding I will be photographing this coming July. I had the pleasure of photographing them for their engagement session yesterday morning in my studio. I have to say off the bat that it was one of the most fun shoots I have done with a couple. They were a lot of fun to work with and very open to do pretty much whatever!

They (Kevin more I think) are big Green Bay Packer fans. So much so in fact, that their wedding reception will be at Lambeau Field. Because of this, part of their session was actually done in Packer jerseys. We had a lot of fun trying to get Sarah to look serious! She is one of those rare people that is non stop smile! While this is great, it is hilarious trying to get her to look serious.

I had a great time getting to know them better during the engagement session. I am really looking forward to photographing their wedding in July. I can tell from the few hours that I got to spend with them that they are a great couple together and will have a long and happy life.

I just wanted to take a moment to say Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all of my wonderful friends, family, clients and anyone else reading this! I have a lot to be thankful for as this year is coming to a close. I have a wonderful and supportive family most of all. I would not be able to do everything I do without my wife and kids. I hope that everyone out there has a safe and wonderful Christmas, and enjoy the time with your family.
