This image was shot with a beauty dish for the main light, a reflector for fill and two large softboxes at the rear pointing towards him. I really like how this image turned out.

Today I had a senior session with Alec. The session was fun and he was very interesting. He plans to become an underwater welder after high school. This interests me very much since I just got my scuba certification a few months ago. I am sure he will do great at it!
Today’s image is another senior portrait from yesterday. I have been fortunate enough to work with some great seniors this year and Dane is no exception. He also happens to be my cousin! Hard to believe that he is already a senior in high school. Makes me feel old, but I am so glad that I was able to do his senior portraits for him. This was an image that I did outside with natural light as the main light, and I used a little on-camera flash to add some fill.

Today’s image is one that I shot yesterday, but I didn’t get done with the shoot and backups until late, so I am posting it today. It is an image I created in studio, with a grid spot on my light. It is kind of an intense image for a senior picture, but I was looking for something different for him. I think it is an intense image and suits him and the topic.

Yesterday I got to work with another class of 2011 senior. This is Sabrina. She was really fun to work with, and I really love this shot. I purposely blew out the background much higher than need be, so that I could get that highlight on her face, and kind of blow out her hair a little bit. I used my ring light as my main light for this one. It is by far, one of my favorite shots of the session. We did an indoor session of about an hour, and then did about 2.5 hours of on-location outdoor shots. It was a lot of fun, and I hope she had fun too!

1. Sleep! Make sure you get at least 2 nights of good sleep before your photo session so that you will look fresh and won’t have bags under your eyes. 2. Guys, let a new hair cut grow out for at least a week before your pictures, allowing time for any white tan lines to disappear. Also, take the time to get a close shave. Girls, if you plan on coloring your hair or getting a new style, also allow at least a week to get used to the style. 3. Have your clothes and accessories ready the night before your shoot. Choose clothes that reflect your style and the changing seasons (summer – fall). Make sure they are clean and free of wrinkles. Ask your photographer how many outfit changes he/she allows or suggests. For each outfit, put your accessories in a zip lock bag and attach it to the hanger. Tags: Photography, portrait, senior, tips
