Today’s image is from the wedding I shot in florida the previous weekend. It was a beach wedding, and these are the bride and groom’s shoes as they set them before they got married. I made the image feel like kind of an old style look and color. It was a great wedding and a great day to shoot. I am sure there will be more that I will be posting from the wedding as I can work through them.

Today I was able to figure out (sort of) how to get the shot I was trying to get last night. I saw a picture somewhat similar to this on the internet and I was trying to recreate it last night. Everything I tried, just didn’t work. The biggest problem I was having was actually just trying to get the wedding rings to stand up inside the book! The lighting I got close, but the standing of the rings just wasn’t working. I am using my, and my wife’s rings and they have very round bottoms. A little google search unveiled several images of this type, and I came across one that had the rings setup like this. I tried it, and finally got it to work! I also saw someone had a post that said they used a flashlight for the light, and that they were able to get the light into a heart shape to match the ring shadow. I played with things a little but and voila! I was able to recreate the image. What I did was to tape my Surefire flashlight onto a light stand with some gaffers tape. I aimed the flashlight, and was able to get a good shadow. It was until I made the image that the heart shape of the light appeared. It was pretty cool to see, and I am pretty happy with how it turned out. This is something that will come in handy for the weddings I have coming up!
Today I read page 85 of the Canon 5D Mark II manual, Selecting the Drive Mode. Tags: bible, flashlight, rings, Surefire, wedding
Wedding Rings? What is the significance you say? Well, I will tell you. I have officially opened for business. I am now looking for clients to photograph. I will be doing portraits (including families, kids, adults, pets, maternity), events, Seniors, and most importantly weddings. I say most importantly, because other than having kids, your wedding day is probably the most memorable, fun, frantic, and wonderful day of your life. I want to be there to capture those moments as they are happening and give you something to look at 20, 30, 60 years from now and remember fondly of the day you got married. So if any one out there happens to know of someone looking for a wedding or other photographer. Please direct them to my website or having them call or email me to setup an appointment.

This past Saturday I got to photograph, actually my first, wedding. The happy couple was Gao and Jerry. I actually booked this wedding in kind of a different way. A good friend of mine, Chang, had been talking to a friend of hers about me knowing that his sister was getting married. He had said that he would ask if she had a photographer yet, but Chang never heard back from him until about 3 weeks ago. He called her and asked for my number. Well, he called me and I spoke to him that night, and he said he would talk to his sister. The next day he called and told me that they were going to book me, and I guess the rest is history. I found out on Saturday that they did have someone else in mind originally, but that he had to back out, hence the phone call to Chang. I was completely honored that they decided to go with me, and they are such a great couple! The entire family was so nice and generous. I started the day shooting at her brother’s house, and from there we went to
From Heritage Hill we moved on to Josten Park, and finally to The Ravine where the reception was held. There was no actual ceremony for this wedding, because the couple was already married in a traditional Hmong ceremony this past summer. The weather was beautiful that day, so we got a lot of nice outside pictures. The couple then danced and partied the night away with friends and family. It was a great day indeed!
